History of Israel + Hamas, Building Product, Veteran ETA, and Podcast Guest Appearances
Good morning,
Have a few goodies for you this morning.
Israel + Hamas
You’re likely aware of the conflict brewing with Israel started by Hamas at a music festival a few weeks back. Personally, I love to be informed but find it extremely difficult to look at page of undifferentiated news stories and find out exactly whats going on - somehow always feel behind!
I reached out to friend of the show, Bill Toti (former captain of USS Indianapolis, author of From CO to CEO), who I had on the show last year. He’s been making appearances on News Nation to talk about the conflict and commentate. He suggested this video from Cornerstone Chapel in Leesburg VA where the pastor gives a ‘sermon’ on the history of Hamas, why this conflict is occuring, and how its impacting the United States. This was a great primer for the events.
To follow up the conversation, I hosted Bill on the podcast again to discuss his perspective. We talked about the tunnels which Hamas has built to stockpile weapons, the critical differentiation of the land of Palestine and the Palestinian people, stance of liberal arts colleges on anti-semitism, how the conflict ties in with the Ukraine Russia issues, and possible ways this could play out.
You can check our conversation here on Youtube or on Apple/Spotify for audio versions. Forgive my poor video quality - working through some issues with new hosting platform!
Also this week on the pod
I hosted Nicu Parente on the podcast this week also. We talked about being a product manager at Salesforce and how to develop your ‘career capital’ as a veteran. His thoughts and expansion on Cal Newport’s idea of career capital is fantastic and applicable at whatever stage of your career you’re in.
Nicu also has put together a kick ass tech transition guide for if you’re trying to break into tech. The guide has list of different apprenticeship programs, accelerators, certifications, and other goodies that can help catapult you into a tech role. It’s by far the most comprehensive list I’ve ever seen and absolutely worth bookmarking.
Link for his site and tech guide is here.
Veteran ETA (Entrepreneurship through Acquisition)
ETA is a popular subject amongst vets who are getting after their careers post service. The appeal is “Why spend time climbing the corporate ladder when you can buy yourself into the CEO seat from day 1?” Much more complex than that and a lot on the line but a great path for vets with some leadership experience.
Charlie McCarthy is putting together a vet ETA roundtable with a great series of speakers and conversations on the topic. This lineup is massive!

Going on a podcast?
After 100 episodes of hosting people on the show, I’ve finally put together some best practices I’ve seen that make guests stand out on shows. This is an article I’ll be sharing with future guests as not a requirement, but a extra mile level of effort. I’m calling it ‘10 Ways to be a Better Podcast Guest in Under 10 Minutes’.
If you’re going to make a media appearance for the first time, it’s worth checking out!
Hope you’re well. Keep attacking.
