Good morning and happy Monday.
I want to start out by saying thank you. Thank you for showing up every week to listen to what I have to say. I consider myself extremely grateful for the exposure this newsletter has brought as well as the connections and conversations that have occurred as a result.
When I set out to start writing, I felt like I was tackling an information problem. Since taking an interest in finance, I’ve been hung up on why people act the way they do with their money. I figured they didn’t know what to do and that’s why a bulk of these weekly columns have focused on educating. What I’ve learned since the beginning is it’s not an information problem at all - it’s a people problem.
Understanding your personal finances isn’t a new concept; there are thousands of books, websites, and people all offering the information that’s needed. I knew these resources were there but didn’t think they were distilled enough. It turns out, they’re as distilled enough as can be.
People know they should save more money. They know they should contribute to their 401ks. Cook at home, drive a cheap car, yada yada yada. We know, but we don’t do. Isn’t that an anecdote for life.
Coming to this conclusion has led me to want to change directions; I want to tackle the doing problem. I don’t know exactly what that looks like yet, but that’s what I’m thinking about. With that said I want to formally say I won’t be writing weekly anymore. While I still believe in the value of writing, I don’t think this is the most effective way to implement it.
I appreciate the support immensely. I may not write every week but my door will always be open. Many people have reached out with specific questions, input, financial checkups, investing questions - I’m always here for that. Don’t hesitate to ask.
Have a great week and keep moving forward.
